Trends to Timelessness and how to find your Bridal Style
Your wedding day is a reflection of your unique love story and personal style of you and your partner. From the venue to the decor, every detail is an opportunity to showcase what makes you both special. When it comes to your wedding dress, finding the perfect style is a blend of embracing current trends while staying true to your timeless essence. As an Australian bridal designer, I’ve helped countless brides navigate this journey, and I’m here to share my tips on how to find your bridal style that transcends trends.
How to Embrace Trends
Trends in bridal fashion come and go, and while they can be exciting and add a modern flair to your wedding look, it’s essential to approach them with caution. Here’s how you can incorporate trends into your bridal style while ensuring your dress remains timeless:
-
Research with an Open Mind
Before diving into dress shopping, spend some time researching current bridal trends. Look through bridal magazines, Pinterest boards, and social media platforms for inspiration. Keep a folder or board of dresses that catch your eye, noting the elements you love, such as the fabric, lace, neckline, silhouette, sleeve, etc. I actually save the image with the title of what I love about it so that it’s easy to see at a glance if you’re looking at sleeves, i.e., “Sleeves 1”, “Sleeves 2”, etc.
-
Understand Your Personal Style
Take a moment to reflect on your everyday style. Do you gravitate towards classic, romantic looks? Or are you more drawn to sleek, modern designs? Understanding your personal style will help you filter through trends and choose elements that resonate with you.
-
Incorporate Trends Thoughtfully
When you find a trend that speaks to you, think about how you can incorporate it into your dress in a way that feels authentic. For example, if you love the idea of statement sleeves, consider a gown with subtle, elegant sleeves that add a touch of drama without overwhelming the look.
-
Focus on Timeless Elements
While trends can be fun, timeless elements are what will ensure your dress remains beautiful for years to come. Consider features like:
Classic Silhouettes: A-line, ballgown, and sheath silhouettes are timeless choices that flatter a range of body types.
Quality Fabrics: Opt for high-quality fabrics like silk, lace, delustre satin, crepe and tulle that not only look luxurious but also stand the test of time.
Elegant Details: Delicate lace, intricate beading, and subtle embroidery are timeless details that add sophistication to any dress.
My 5 Tips for Finding Your Bridal Style
-
Start with Inspiration
Gather inspiration from a variety of sources as I mentioned above, from bridal magazines to Instagram and wedding websites. Save images (using my title hint from before) of dresses, accessories, and overall looks that resonate with you. This will help you identify common themes and elements that define your style.
-
Consider Your Wedding Theme
Your wedding theme can provide valuable guidance for your bridal style. Whether you’re planning a rustic outdoor wedding, a glamorous ballroom affair, or an intimate beach ceremony, your dress should complement the overall vibe of your wedding.
-
Try on Different Styles
When you begin dress shopping, be open to trying on different styles, even ones you may not have considered. A dress may look different on the hanger than it does on your body, and you might be surprised by what you love once you try it on. This is because we all have different body shapes and proportions (torso length, leg length, etc) and what looks good on the model may not work for you at all!
-
Seek Expert Advice
Bridal consultants are invaluable resources when it comes to finding your perfect dress. They have extensive experience working with brides of all shapes and sizes, so they can offer valuable insights and suggestions based on your preferences.
-
Trust Your Instincts
Above all, trust your instincts (not always the votes from your beloved Bride Tribe – more to come on this in next month’s blog). When you put on the dress that’s meant for you, you’ll feel it. It should not only look beautiful but also make you feel confident, comfortable, and like the best version of yourself.
In conclusion, finding your bridal style is an exciting journey that blends current trends with timeless elegance. Whether you opt for a dress that embraces the latest fashions or choose a classic silhouette with elegant details, the most important thing is that you feel absolutely stunningly YOU on your wedding day.
