A year of the Blush Pink Wedding Dress
Blush Pink Wedding Dresses
As we race towards the end of the year I find myself reflecting back on the amazing year 2023 has been. True connection with my brides is something I highly value and to do it in a kind and authentic manner inspires me and drives my passion for each one of them! One of the key elements to ‘true connection’ is to carefully listen to what their vision is and be able to match it perfectly, for one of the most important days of their lives.
This past year I’ve had a great mix of Custom and Ready-to-wear brides, with several of my custom brides opting for a wedding dress with a touch of blush pink for their BIG day. One of those brides was Chiara and I’d love to share her story with you…

Chiara’s mum Jayne, came across me on instagram and encouraged her to get in touch as she realised after several bridal shop appointments that Chiara needed to go the Custom Design route. This is what Chiara had to say about her initial experience…
Thankfully, my Mum found Jo on Instagram! I knew my ‘meant to be’ dress was on its way after my very first meeting with Jo. She welcomed my mum and myself into her home studio many times throughout the process and was always kind, warm and professional. Jo understood exactly what I was after and made my pink wedding dress dream reality!”
When creating for my custom brides I always look at all of their inspiration and then design according to their body shape and proportions so that the wedding dress/outfit is the most flattering for them. My challenge for Chiara was that her shoulders are wider than her hips which gives her a slightly inverted triangle body shape and this was in conflict with the off-the-shoulder neckline that she wanted and loved! To accommodate for this I had to explore all the options during Chiara’s design phase.
My solution was to create this element of the design in a sheer ivory tulle that matched beautifully with the ruched ivory tulle sleeves. Using the more sheer fabric instead of the solid blush pink one, created a much softer look and didn’t make her look unnecessarily wider across the shoulders. Incorporating A-symetrical ruching into the dress also helped to create a wider hip to help balance out her proportions. A win-win solution as Chiara got the design she loved but with a slight twist that enhanced her style and figure in the most flattering way.
Designing to my brides body shape and proportions is one of the things that sets me apart from other bridal designers. I strongly believe that if you get the basic wedding dress silhouette and colour right then you can have fun with the rest of the elements!
Hear a little more from Chiara after her wedding day…
“She has an extensive knowledge of body shapes and anything wedding dress related.
Jo is a perfectionist and she went out of her way to ensure that my dress was everything I wanted. To be honest, my dress absolutely exceeded all my expectations.
A special memory that I will hold dear is seeing my Dad tear up seeing me in my wedding dress for the first time – he loved my dress, as did everyone else!
I very highly recommend Jo for her dress designing and making services, you will be in very capable hands!
Thank you again Jo, I have so many happy memories associated with my pink wedding dress and I’m so happy I got to share this process with you!”
