The Best Wedding Gowns for the Petite Bride

Bridal for the Petite Bride

Today, I am wrapping up the “Body Shape” posts for a while; with this one on the ideal gowns for the Petite Bride. I would love to hear from those of you that find it beneficial and am also happy to answer any other questions or concerns that you may have.

Below is my illustration of the 5 main Bridal Gown silhouettes. I will discuss which ones will be best for you as a Petite Bride, as not all of them are suitable.

5 Bridal Silhouettes

What is Petite?

Petite, is usually a bride under 5’4″ tall. It’s important to remember the most flattering styles will also depend on whether or not you are a Plus size, or with a leaning towards one of the other Body Shapes, i.e. Rectangle, Pear, Inverted Triangle, Apple or Hourglass. So my guidelines are focused on styles that will elongate your look and make you look taller.

Fit & Flare Silhouette

The first style and possibly my favourite is the Fit & Flare silhouette. This style helps to lengthen and elongate your frame; remembering that the gentler flare is more flattering than the more exaggerated Mermaid silhouette. The Mermaid tends to be tighter around the knee with a more dramatic flared hemline.

The Sheath Silhouette

The second silhouette that lengthens the torso is the Sheath style gown. This is slender in the skirt and has many variations for the neckline, sleeve and waistline (this is where we can really get creative). The Gailardia Italian RTW gown above, features a detachable train for the brides that love a ‘new look’ or ‘no train’, for the reception party.

Gentle A-Line Silhouette

Thirdly, we have the Gentle A-Line silhouette, that can also be a great choice for the Petite bride; especially those that have a leaning towards the Pear body shape. This silhouette takes the focus away from the hip-line and helps to create soft lines that are extremely flattering as well as super ‘comfy’ on the Big Day! The neckline should be fashioned around the size of your bust in relation to your hips, to create the best balance.

As I said before, these are just guidelines. We are all different and our proportions also play a big role in what looks good and what looks GREAT! If you are after more details, I will be happy to book you in for one of my Bridal Image Consulting Sessions, just reply to this email or via this link Let’s chat!

I hope that this has been helpful for you or a friend. I do what I do, because I absolutely love making a difference in helping brides LOOK their BEST and FEEL FABULOUS, on one of the most important days of their lives!

Till next time ladies, keep safe and keep happy!

Fondly, Joanne.
